Good topic, we've never done it before....

Okay gang, let's list the dog parks in downtown, and while we're at it, let's list as many dog parks as we can, all over town.

s/Mike

PS: Hey, I googled it and found at least 5 in Denver, one near downtown (Fuller?) See: Denver's Off-Leash Dog Areas (http://www.coloradodogparks.com/denver_parks.htm#Fuller - broken link)

Here is a list from this website... for the city of Denver only.

Denver Dog Parks

But, in addition to this list I think there was a sign for a new dog park that will be opening across from the skateboard park just north of downtown.

http://www.denvergov.org/Portals/455/images/PR_dog_9.jpg (broken link) Denver's off-leash dog park areas are located in the following parks:

Berkeley Park - Sheridan and West 46th

Barnum Park - Hooker and West 5th

Jason Street - 678 South Jason Street (operated by Denver's Municipal Animal Shelter)

Kennedy Park - Hampden and South Dayton

Fuller Park - Franklin and East 29th

Green Valley Ranch East Park - Jebel and East 45th

Stapleton - East 24th Avenue & Syracuse Street

All visitors must adhere to posted rules and regulations. Bag dispensers are provided at each park, and visitors are expected to clean-up after their pooches.

I think that the closest one to downtown that is currently open would be the one in Fuller Park at E. 29th and Franklin.

Oh yeah, one other thing... I've been to three of these personally and the one at Barnum Park is not fenced. It is off-leash and there are kind of posts that delineate where the dogs are supposed to stay within but there is no physical barrier that prevents them from going beyond the designated area. The other two I have been to at Berkeley and Fuller are fully fenced, and I was told that all the rest are completely fenced as well.

Stapleton is at 23rd not 24th. Not that it matters much. Weekends are crowded, 60+ ****machines at times with owners that seriously want me to run over their dogs as they keep them off leash and in the street.

Couple of photos of Dog Parks

Berkeley Park -- The dog park here is huge.

Barnum Park -- See the little "fence" where the people are walking... that is what is used to delineate the off-leash dog area in Barnum Park.

I used to go to Fuller all the time.
Be sure to bring your own water during the summer time.

Last time I was home visiting, I took my dog to a dog park at 105th & Simms, it's huge. Has a smaller fully fenced area for timid dogs & runners, then a larger area fenced 2/3 around. That area leads out to a huge biking/walking trail. Saw some bald eagles & gorgeous sunsets. I think it was near Chatfield St. Park? Although "far" from Downtown Denver, it's a great short "road trip for you and your best friend! Found it on coloradodogparks.com

Some other "road trips" to dog parks would be the parks in Louisville, Lafayette and Boulder. Dogs are allowed off-leash on many of the mountain parks trails in Boulder, as well.

^ oh yeah, good suggestion pittnurse. I remember on a trail at the flatirons in Boulder that after you reached a certain point on the trail, they could be off leash. There were lots of well behaved dogs on the trail. Unfortunately for us, one of our dogs is well behaved and one is... uhh... not. She would run off into the mountains and we would never see her again LOL.
